3D Survey Group – Milano

Cristiana is a Professor of Survey Techniques at Politecnico di Milano. Her research focuses on the survey and representation of Cultural Heritage and Urban context. In particular, she is interested in studying new technologies for survey and managing data.

She obtained her master degree in Architecture in 1999 and the PhD in Geodetic and cartography Sciences, in 2003. Then, she became a researcher of Topography and Cartography, at Politecnico di Milano.

 

She organises and trains at workshops and training courses c/o Politecnico of Milano for the architectural survey and preservation of Cultural Heritage (survey, data elaboration, data management). She has been involved in several projects at national and international level, topics: 3D accurate, complete and rapid survey of complex architectures and large monumental sites (Metropolitana di Napoli”; “Progetto Grande Guglia; “Progetto Spire 3D WEB BIM“; SMART Culture; L.I.F.E. @ Umm al-Dabadib Egypt).

She is a member of the National Scientific Committee CSN ICOMOS Italy – CIPA – Heritage Documentation. She is also member of IIC, The International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works – FIIC.

She is the author of more than 90 publications.

Francesco is a senior researcher of the ABC Departiment, in Politecnico di Milano. Since 2003, dedicated his research to survey techniques and methodologies in the field of Cultural Heritage.

He graduated in Engineering for Environment and Territory at Polytechnic of Milan in 2001. He got the Ph.D (awarded with honours) in Geodesy and Geomatics with a thesis entitled “Integration of traditional and innovative technologies for survey and modelling of cultural heritage.”

He has being involved in several survey research jobs acquiring great experience in the field of the “measure” and great sensitivity to the problems associated with the acquisition and processing of data for the expeditious but comprehensive survey of Cultural Heritage. Today senior researcher (Type RTDB) He is currently participating to the following projects:

• Milan cathedral survey modelling and BIM design
• The “SanMarco3D Project”
• Survey of manufacturing and hand-made structures came to the light during the excavations of underground Naples.
• O.A.S.I.S. Project (Old Agricultural Sites and Irrigation Systems)
• LiFE project

Member of ICOMOS Italia. He has more than 80 publications.

P.I. ERC Consolidator Grant 681673 – 2015: Umm al Dabadib, Egypt

Corinna graduated in Architecture at the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II and earned a PhD in Egyptology at Cambridge University under the supervision of Barry J. Kemp. She worked for many years on the relationship between architecture and mathematics in ancient Egypt, and developed a parallel interest in the antiquities of the Western Desert. In particular, she is interested in the large-scale strategy of occupation and exploitation of the area in the Roman period, with special attention to the mutual relationship and the desert tracks that linked the archaeological sites.

She is the Principal Investigator of the ERC Consolidator Grant 681673 – 2015, called LIFE – Living In a Fringe Environment. The general scope of LIFE is to offer a complete set of archaeological and environmental data to be used to investigate Late Roman settlements along frontier desert areas and to reconstruct the underlying strategy to control the empire’s desert edges. The specific case study is the Late Roman archaeological site of Umm al-Dabadib, located at the outskirts of the the Kharga Oasis (Egypt’s Western Desert), that in the Fourth Century AD represented a portion of the southern boundary of the empire.

Born in Milano (MI) on March, 11th, 1986. Master degree cum laude in Architecture at Politecnico di Milano on December, 21st, 2011. The title of thesis was: “Modern techniques for surveying and documenting the Cultural Heritage: the Duomo di Milano, a case study.”, tutor prof.ssa Cristiana Achille, co-tutor, prof. Carlo Monti.

From 03.16.2012 to 03.15.2013 he had a fellowship entitled: “Modern techniques for elaborating the photogrammetric and laser scanner survey data, for real-based three-dimensional modelling of complex architectures” at ABC Department of Politecnico di Milano.

From 10.1.2013 to 09.30.2014 he had a fellowship entitled: “Technologies and automatic procedures for the photogrammetric survey, rapid and complete of ancient findings and extended architectures” at ABC Department of Politecnico di Milano, renewed from the 1.10.2014, to 09.30.2015 and from the 1.10.2015 to 09.30.16, and from the 1.10.16, in progress.

On January 29th, 2016, he became a Ph.D. with merit in Environmental and Infrastracture Engineering – Geomatic profile – XXVIII cycle.

He partecipates and coordinates activities of topographic survey, photogrammetry, laser-scanner, UAV, and tutoring in the summer schools organized by the laboratory.

Research fellow at ABC Department inside L.I. F.E. project, her main research activities concern advanced techniques reality-based 3D survey, 3D data post-processing and 3D modelling.

Graduated in Civil Engineering at the University of Salerno, she did a post-graduate activity at the Laboratory of Architectural Photogrammetry (LFA-DAVAP) of the University of Valladolid (Spagna) and she worked as research with 3DOM unit at the Fondazione Bruno Kessler. She got a PhD in Architecture and Urban Phenomenology at the University of the Basilicata and she had three years contract as research fellow at Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Salerno.

 She took part in different research projects (PRIN, FARB) and participated in in several conferences of international interest, with papers published in the relating acts. In 2015, she took part in the “Grande Progetto Pompei” (lotto 2 / c.i.g.:5632012354 / c.u.p.: f69g13001560006. regio II e extra moenia) taking care of laser scanner survey and its processing.

Born in Segrate (MI) on October 28th, 1990.

She has a Master degree  in Architecture on 07/23/2014.  Post-graduate second-level Master on 05/2016.

From 02/16 to 10/16 she had a research fellowship entitled:”Interoperabilità tra dati di rilievo, software di modellazione e sistemi BIM con riferimento ai Beni Culturali. Interoperability between survey data, modelling software, and BIM systems in the Cultural Heritage field.” ICAR/06

On November 2016, she won a ministerial scholarship and became a PhD student in Architecture, Built Environment and Contruction Engineering.

Her research investigates he use of  BIM process in the Cultural Heritage Field, focusing on the accuracy of the virtual models, the elaboration of point cloud data, the interoperability, the level of detail and information, and the different application of the models. She is also studying the valorisation modalities of Cultural Heritage, including the fruition, the communication, and the re-activation of a building/site.

She collaborates in different national and international projects, and train students on point cloud data elaboration, bi-dimensional and three-dimensional (BIM) restitution, BIM, and more. She updates the 3D Survey Group websites and the Social Pages.

Fabrizio was born in Milano (Italy) on February, 10^th, 1981. He was awarded a 5-year master of science degree in computer engineering at Politecnico di Milano on July, 25^th, 2012 with a thesis entitled “Design and implementation on FPGA of an hardware interface for network communication using TCP/IP protocol”. He also obtained the FIBA Certified Coach License (August, 2014), the Italian National Coach License (July, 2011) and the Italian National Instructor for children (July, 2008). He was awarded of a Certificate of Merit for city recognition from Mayor L. Barzaghi, in Nova Milanese, Italy (May, 2011)

Fabrizio was a research fellow since 2013 and become the ICT development manager of 3D Survey Group. From 2013 to 2017 he had a fellowship entitled “Spire3D – The WEBBIM: implementation of a modular visualization for the management of complex 3D objects and creation of new software for interfacing of existing 3D modelling software with rational databases and the web” at ABC Department of Politecnico di Milano. From 2017 he has a fellowship entitled “3D-WEBBIM Umm al-Dabadib”, at ABC Department of Politecnico di Milano, inside the L.I.F.E. project, ERC Consolidator Grant 2015. Since 1999 he also works as a basketball coach; since 2008 he also works as a promoter of sports holydays. Since 2013 he also works as a freelance in ICT consulting.

His research mainly focuses on the conception and the development of innovative system for managing of 3D models, using BIM for cultural heritage (architectural and archaeological case of study), dissemination of the data collected, using 3D inside web, virtual reality and user interaction, museum installation. His research leads to a Italian Patent Pending (MI2014A002016) and many publications.

The WEBBIM and the BIM3DSG systems, developed inside his research, are used in most project of 3D Survey Group, for example Milan Cathedral, San Marco in Venice, SMART Culture, L.I.F.E @ Umm al-Dabadib and may others. These systems are also used inside some course and training of 3D Survey Group.

Born in Rho (MI) on December 10th, 1991.

Master degree in Architecture in July 2016, with a thesis entitled: “Photogrammetry for architecture: fish-eye lens for the surveying of narrow places. Test and trials on Milan’s Cathedral.”

From October 2016, apprentice in 3D Survey Group, he is collaborating on the survey and restitution of the indoors of Milan’s Cathedral. From November 2017, he became a Ph.D. Candidate in Architecture, Built Environment and Construction Engineering, winning the thematic scholarship entitled: “Image-based techniques for the 3D survey of complex environments in archaeology and cultural heritage. Development of low cost sensors for the automatic survey of indoor environments.”
